The Lyngen Alps: a ski touring paradise
Welcome to the Lyngen Alps, a gem of Northern Norway! This unique mountain range combines steep terrain, quality snow, and breathtaking landscapes. It’s the ideal place to experience a true ski touring adventure in an exceptional Arctic setting.
How does a ski touring day unfold?
Outings are day trips, with duration adapted to conditions and your level. Here’s what awaits you:
- Early morning meeting (8am): We meet at the starting point to begin the day
- Ascent: We climb under our own power with skis equipped with climbing skins that give us traction
- Terrain adaptation: We choose the route based on snow conditions, weather, and your level
- Ski descent: Once at the summit, we remove the skins, switch the bindings to downhill mode, and off we go for the glide!
- Return (3pm-4pm): End of day after fully enjoying the Norwegian slopes
What is ski touring?
Ski touring is the art of climbing mountains with your skis and then skiing back down. On the ascent, we use climbing skins attached under the skis that allow us to move forward and climb (somewhat like cross-country skiing movement). Once at the top, we remove the skins, adjust the bindings, and it’s time for the descent in pristine nature!
This sport has been booming for about ten years, and demand continues to grow, particularly in France and Norway.
For whom?
A sporty and experienced audience
Ski touring in the Lyngen Alps is aimed at an already experienced audience in good physical condition. Here’s why:
- Demanding terrain: The Lyngen Alps offer fairly steep terrain that isn't ideal for beginners
- Intense physical activity: Ski touring requires endurance and determination
- Fit and motivated audience: Ideal for skiers who have already practiced during the season and are looking for demanding terrain to push themselves in an exceptional setting
If you’re a beginner, don’t panic! We can adapt the outings, but keep in mind that this destination is really made for those seeking a sporting challenge and who already have a foundation in ski touring.
A tailored package: you choose
The great strength of this service is its flexibility! You organize your stay exactly as you wish. The duration remains open: half a day, one day, three days, five days… you decide!
Discovery package: Take me at the beginning of your stay to familiarize yourself with the terrain and conditions, then explore the mountain range independently
Full accompaniment: If you prefer, I can accompany you throughout your entire stay
Why choose a guide based on site?
Many international visitors come to Norway for ski touring. As a French guide fluent in English and based here year-round, I offer you several advantages:
Clear communication: Fluent English communication ensures we understand each other perfectly!
Local presence: I’m on site, no need to pay for transport and accommodation for a guide from abroad
Total flexibility: You hire me for as many days as you wish
Discovery package: Many clients take me for 2-3 days at the beginning of their stay to discover the mountain range, then continue on their own afterwards
When to come?
The ski touring season
The ski touring season in the Lyngen Alps runs from late February to mid-May. I alternate between Finland and Norway at the beginning of the season, then settle completely in Norway when conditions are optimal.
It’s the ideal period to enjoy long daylight hours, good snow conditions, and breathtaking Arctic landscapes.
Equipment: come equipped (or rent on site)
For ski touring, practitioners generally come with their own equipment (skis, boots, personal gear). However, if you don’t have equipment, I can help you out.
- Avalanche safety equipment: I can provide you with safety equipment (avalanche transceiver, shovel, probe) if necessary
- Rental possible: If you don't want to travel with all your equipment, you can rent skis and boots on site. I can point you to the right places!
Rates
Ski touring is booked by the day. The base rate is €460 for a group of up to 3 people, with a small increase per additional person (maximum 6 people).
This daily package allows you to book exactly what you need, without committing to the entire duration of your stay if you also want to explore independently.
- For 1 to 3 people: €460/day
